Dust palliatives are the agents applied to various road surfaces to prevent dust clouds and their environmental impact. The most commonly used dust palliatives are lignin sulfonate and magnesium chloride.
How It ’s Used
Most dust palliatives are spread directly to the road surface. Preparation is minimal. Depending upon road usage and weather conditions, a maintenance plan with subsequent applications is recommended.
Dustac®
Dustac® is a "lignin" type of product. Lignins are the "glue" that provides the strength in trees. Lignins are used in dust control and surface stabilization.
The product is derived the from the lignin that naturally binds cellulose fibers together to give trees and plants firmness. Commercial lignin products meet the specifications of the U.S. Forest Service Administration, General Service Administration and local and regional government standards.

Coherex®
Coherex has been used for 40 years in many different applications and industries for controlling dust and as a wind erosion agent. It is a petroleum resin-based non-volatile emulsion consisting of approximately 60% semi-liquid natural petroleum resins and 40% wetting agents. Coherex leaves a cumulative residue of the resins deposited on the soil particles, so only occasional, light re-treatment is required.

Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium Chloride is a naturally biodegradeable salt compound comprised of magnesium and chlorine and is used for controlling dust on a variety of road types. Magnesium chloride is hygroscopic, thus having the ability to attract atmospheric moisture from the surrounding air and holding this moisture in the top 2 inches of your road surface resulting in a dust free environment.
